The day began with a tour through the Country Music Hall of Fame. The history of country music is well chronicled and they have preserved so many important pieces of memorabilia. It covers 3 floors and was quite interesting.
We saw Carl Perkins' blue suede shoes and Elvis Presley's solid gold Cadillac. This is just a sample of the items on display at the museum. There was so much to see. The entire wardrobe from Carrie Underwood's last tour is stunning!
My favorite Country Artist is Brad Paisley and there is a section in his honor. The black and white guitar on the right is one of his first. It was from Sears!
After the tour we found a fun place for lunch. Honky Tonk Central has great food and live music. The band was great and played just about any country song you request. They were only stumped by one request. Pretty good!
The chicken sandwich and tater tots weren't bad either! We listened to music for about an hour and it was time to move on to our next destination.
We have so many places to see and we feel like we're running out of time!
Thinking we'd like to see the Louisville Slugger Museum we headed north to Louisville, Kentucky. I have visions of beautiful pastures with white fences and hundreds of horses. These horses looked suspiciously like cows to me! I still have visions of horse pastures and will be watching for them tomorrow.
The drive is lovely and it was only about 2 1/2 hours in the car today. We didn't arrive early enough to see the museum today so we walked down the riverbank and enjoyed the downtown area. This is the Ohio River. Not a boat in sight!
Fourth Street has been turned into a restaurant row with live music. It's a fun place to walk and the choices for dinner were abundant. We settled on a sports bar and grill so we could watch the US Open while having dinner. It was another wonderful day!
We'll have tomorrow to visit the
Louisville Slugger Museum and Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. We'll leave town after our day of sight seeing to get a jump on the drive to Portland, Maine. It's a 17 hour drive and will take us 3 days to get there! We'll see how far we can make it before we have to find a room to sleep for the night. This will be one of the longer drives that we have planned. I can't say we're looking forward to the drive but we're excited to see New England. This may be the true test to see how suited we are to this mode of travel! If I don't write for two days it will be because of exhaustion! This vacationing is hard work!
