Where The Hell Are We?

Just kidding!!! We're in Fort Wayne. Indiana. I didn't think I'd have anything to write about tonight but I have to tell you a funny story.

Our plan was to leave Niagra Falls and make our way to Mount Rushmore. It will take several days to get there. The route to take was up in the air. We decided that as long as we were here we'd like to go to St. Paul and see the Arch. So we mapped it out and planned to drive the first day to Lansing, Michigan, the next day we could go to Milwaukee and then on to St.Paul.  I was excited to go to Milwaukee. We could tour a brewery and catch another professional baseball game.  We had a tough time getting a room in Milwaukee. It was quite a bit more expensive but we finally got a room.

Thank goodness, I got an email from my dear friend, Linda Estep. She asked about our plans and I told her where we were headed.  I got back a message that was basically, "Duh! The arch is in St. Louis!"
Oh My God! We would have driven 3 days to St. Paul to find out there was no arch! We checked it out and, what do you know, she was right!  We cancelled the reservations and plotted our course for St. Louis. Linda will not let me live this down for a long time!

So...here we are in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It's half way to St. Louis. It was a lovely drive. We drove across Ontario, north of Lake Erie. As soon as we drove West from Niagra Falls we lost our cell service and GPS! I've been navigating with my map app on my phone. I didn't realize that as soon as we were away from the hotel we would be without service on our phones. We stopped at a gas station and made it to Detroit the old fashioned way, we bought a map!

The drive was just lovely. The farms in Ohio and Indiana are just like pictures in a storybook.
They seem different than in California where you drive by acres of crops growing for as far as you can see. Here there are farms with houses and huge barns on smaller parcels. You feel like Old MacDonald must live there!

We arrived at the Courtyard in Fort Wayne and didn't think there'd be much to report.  This church was waiting for us when we looked out the window.  I can't believe how lucky we've been with the views from our rooms.

We needed to walk for a bit after sitting for so long in the car. A trip around the block brought us to the church and then on to a great Pub. There was a huge crowd tonight.  It turns out that our hotel is next
door to the ballpark for the local triple A team. It's great to see the community supporting the team.  There was a
pretty good turn out and there will be fireworks tonight. I may slip down to the patio where I'll be able to watch the fireworks after the game.

We had dinner at the Pub, Fish and Chips for me and Bangers for Jim. We had a fun conversation with a darling couple here for a wedding and now it's time to put my feet up. Even when I thought this would be a day that wasn't worth writing about, it was another great day!

Thank you, Linda!

  1. That is SO FUNNY about the arch! We have friends who used to live in St. Louis, so I did actually know where that was... And the lack of cell coverage - and GPS....what?!!! They don't have satellites back there?! Just when I was feeling safe to throw away all those AAA maps I've been saving for years... Anyhow, glad you made it and I can't wait to see your photo of the famous St. Paul oops, St. Louis arch.
P.S. Dave and Debbie are here and it's wonderful! Next time they visit, you guys have to come, too!
