Hi Y'all,
Yes, people still say y'all in Florida!
Isn't it funny how fate takes a hand? We needed to stay over in Destin because of Tropical Storm Andrea. What a great day we had! Now I'm sure you're saying "She says that every day!". Well, you're right, I have been. BUT IT'S TRUE! What can I say? Call me Pollyanna and hang me out to dry! We had a great day!
We decided to see what the Destin WaterWalk had to offer. We hadn't had a chance to see it yesterday. It is Santa Cruz on steroids! It's a fabulous place for everyone. Families, singles and even old people like us. We were walking down the boardwalk when it started to rain. We decided to duck into a little bar set up on a house boat to wait for the rain to stop.
We have had the best luck when falling into a seedy little bar! Or maybe I've been missing something all along. Whatever the case, this place had the craziest decor. Covering the walls and ceiling were $1 bills, signed by people that had stapled them there. I hope you can see in the photo how many dollar bills are here. There must be thousands.
We sat out on the little wooden patio to have a drink and wait for the rain to stop. Jim decided he wanted to try deep fried oysters and I had deep fried crab claws. Of course we weren't hungry but that wasn't the point. They were wonderful!
The rain stopped and we wandered on down the Boardwalk. This is an unbelievable vacation spot for families. So much to do! Parasailing, Wave runners, sailing, fishing excursions...the list goes on and on. Of course, we were waiting out a storm so we declined the charter cruise. We've seen Gilligan's Island! No 3 hour tours for us!
This waterway is an inlet and just over that white sand beach is the Gulf of Mexico. It's a fun place with tons of shops and restaurants. Later we found another place to sit by the water. Of course we weren't hungry but we had to try the Corn & Crab Fritters. Yum!!!
I know there's a little hurricane going on here in Florida but in our little corner you'd have never known it. What a fun time we had together. By the way, those of you that bet we'd be sick of each other by now? So wrong! We are doing better as each day goes by. Jim has decided this vacation thing isn't half bad! Look out, Jimmy! We may be going a lot more often in the future!
So...back to our hotel to do a little laundry and sit by the pool. I got online to make a tee time for Myrtle Beach. Hopefully, the rain will be gone by the time we get there. Then dinner at a good mexican restaurant. I didn't think we'd find good mexican food on the east coast but I'm happy to say I was wrong.
We should be able to leave in the morning. We're still watching the weather channel but if we have to stay another day I know we'll find an interesting way to spend the day!
You can count me as NOT being among those who thought you'd be sick of one another by now. I knew differently, both because of who you are to one another, but also because I love road trips with Pete and thought you would love yours too. Damn, woman, I'm already to committed to San Antonio next spring, now you rave about Florida??? This could get costly for me! ;-) Enjoy yourselves. You both deserve this!
ReplyDeleteJust ditto Linda's comment, and you have mine too!! All of the places you have talked about make me want to go too!! It is going to be 109 here today and 112 tomorrow!! Enjoy the rain!! Love you guys!
ReplyDeleteTad and I were talking about you guys last night and hoped you could avoid the terrible storms we are seeing on the news. So glad everything is going well in that regard. Yes, as Deb mentioned, it is a bit hot in northern California (108 predicted in Sacramento tomorrow) so a little rain sounds delightful! By the way, I'm going to ask Jim to give Tad a pep talk when you guys come visit us, explaining how important it is to take time off work... Norma
ReplyDeleteYes, I do feel bad for those of you on the west coast with the record heat! We are not sorry to be missing that. For all of the warnings we were given about the humidity in Florida, it is just beautiful here. 85 degrees and the humidity isn't bad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comments about our getting along!
