Niagra Falls!!!

We made it! This was #1 on my list of places to see on this trip. Yesterday we drove for 10 hours to get here and it was worth every achy bone in my body! This was the view waiting for us when we checked into our room.

It was incredible! I know I've said that before but this is so much better than I had expected.  The falls are breathtaking.  We arrived just in time for the afternoon rainbow.  It brought tears to my eyes to know we were really here. You can hear the roar in the room but it's like being at the ocean, very peaceful.   It was late so after staring at the view for about an hour we went down to a wonderful dinner.  First thing in the morning we'll be hoofing it down to the water.

We slept with the drapes open so we could see the sunrise. It was so pretty with the sun coming up through the mist.  We skipped breakfast because we couldn't wait to walk down to the water.  The boat dock for the Maiden of the Mist is about two miles.  It's a beautiful walk along the park with the river on the other side.  There was no wait and we were able to get right on the boat.  It's a choppy ride and this is a perfectly calm day. I can't imagine how rough it would be on a windy day!

The picture on the right is of the American Falls and the one below is the Horseshoe Falls. They are so big!  The first thing that happened when we got on the boat was my camera battery went dead! I couldn't believe it! I've been waiting for this moment the entire trip and I didn't make sure I had my battery charged! Unbelievable...so I pulled out my cell phone. I was able to take a few pictures but it was so wet I was afraid It was going to ruin my phone.

Jim was sure I was going to drop my phone in the river. Thank Goodness I didn't.

After taking the bout cruise we walked to the other end of the park for the Journey Behind the Falls. You can actually go down and walk behind the falls. You take an elevator down and there are tunnels that take you behind the falls. It was a bit unsettling to be behind that much water!

This photo is taken from the deck at the bottom of the falls.  It was such a thrill to be down there. You just can't believe that the water never stops!
Truly Amazing!

We were happy to get back up to the walkway and see the view from the riverbank. I don't usually have problems with enclosed places but it made me a little nervous to be down there.

We've decided that this view from our room is the perfect place to sit and watch the water.  After walking about 5 miles today we sat in the room for an hour and a half happy to be off our feet and still enjoying this spectacular view.
