Part of the fun of a road trip is going off the beaten path. That's exactly what we decided to do this morning. MapQuest told us it would be an extra hour drive but it was in our National Geographic book of scenic drives. It was a beautiful drive through swamp land, oil fields and boat yards. Such a good decision! The only problem is that I only have a couple of pictures. I failed to charge my camera battery and I got to New Orleans without any power. Here are a couple from the drive.
So, we found the city and our hotel and took off for Bourbon Street. I believe Jim thinks he died and went to heaven! We sat and listened to jazz, had some drinks and sampled one of the local favorites, gumbo. His kind of day.
This is such a crazy place! There must be 100 bars and restaurants in a 6 square block space. It's pretty seedy and a little dirty but quite interesting. We'll have more time tomorrow and a full battery. We have dinner reservations at Commander's Palace. I'm very excited about that! This is the place that launched Emeril's career. We have lots of walking to do tomorrow, then dinner and back to the French Quarter to experience it after dark.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog. I appreciate all of your comments.
How are you new shoes holding up? After al of your walking are they still comfy? Have a great time!! New Orleans is like a different country! Enjoy!!

It's hard to imagine taking a trip and being able to arrange the itinerary as you go. I'll bet you are seeing lots of interesting people and spots today! I hope you let Jim sit and listen to some jazz this afternoon during all that walking! Norma
