We Love Boston!

I know, I know...I've said it before but WE REALLY LOVE BOSTON!  Man, there's a lot going on in this town!  We've got the Boston Bruins and the whole hockey play-off thing, the Red Sox in town and the trial of Boston mobster Whitey Bulger. The press is everywhere!  We happen to be staying at the hotel that the NHL is using for the Stanley Cup headquarters. I wish I knew more about the players because they're at breakfast, they're in the elevator, and they're very cool!  They're also pretty big!  What a kick!

After the storm last night we were worried about rain for today but we woke up to sunshine. Woo Hoo! We're going to go to Fenway Park this afternoon for the game! It's a beautiful day and we have all morning so we're off for a little sightseeing before the ballpark.

Walking to the Public Library we came across the memorial that has been growing in honor of the 2013 bombing victims.  It's a very emotional place.

People started leaving meaningful items and a memorial happened. There are caps and runners left their shoes. Children have written letters to the victims. When I heard about it I wasn't sure I wanted to see it but it was quite moving.
It is directly across from the Public Library. While on the trolley tour the guide encouraged everyone to go to the Library. It was completed in 1895 and is a wonderful building. It holds John Adams Presidential Library.

We were able to walk through the halls checking out all the rooms. What an amazing place to study! This is an incredible Library. We finally found the Rare Books room tucked up on the third floor. We felt like we were trespassing but the woman in charge couldn't have been nicer. She showed us the floor that holds John Adams library then showed us the rare books that are in climate controlled glass cases.  On  display right now are the works of Daniel Defoe. He wrote "Robinson Crusoe" in 1719! There were 1st Edition books on display! Wow!

Among his other works are "Moll Flanders" and he even wrote a book in 1727 titled "Conjugal Lewdness or Matrimonial Whoredom"! Very racy and controversial in those years!
This was such an educational morning but it's time for the Red Sox game!  We've been looking forward to this for a long time! And it's a perfect day! Sunny and warm, we're so lucky!

Outside Fenway Park is a bronze statue of Ted Williams with a little boy. Then we go through the gate and it's just like a carnival.  There are vendors and any type of food you might want.  This is such a special ball park with such history! It's a dream come true to be here.

The game starts and it's pretty hot for a few innings. The Red Sox are winning and it's a perfect day. Thank goodness it starts to cool off.  Wait a minute, it's getting really cool!

Is that a raindrop we feel? It's the bottom of the 5th inning and it starts to sprinkle. So we thought we'd better leave before it starts to rain. We want to get a taxi before everyone else does.

Just as we get up to leave it starts pouring!  Half of the crowd is now leaving with us.  There will be no cab for us! We just have to walk in the rain.  Luckily our hotel is only a mile or two from the ballpark.
(I don't know how this underline happened but I can't get rid of it!)

We may as well just keep walking because we're soaked now and can't get much wetter. We walked along with other poor souls that were in the same fix.  Nobody is going to get a taxi. Across the street is a place we had noticed yesterday that looked like fun.

Now, I know I've mentioned several times in other posts about happening into a bar and what fun we've had.  It must be some kind
of a 6th sense! We went in to get out of the rain and met the two greatest guys. Both from Boston and we had a ball talking with them.  You know I had a great time if I'm willing to post a photo of me looking like a drowned rat!

I think Boston has the friendliest people that we've met so far. Did I tell you how much we love this city? Oh yes, I think I mentioned that.  We got back to the room, showered and got into some dry clothes.  We've had enough seafood so we go to the North End for Italian food.  We found a great pasta place and what's the special? Lobster Ravioli!  Okay, lobster one more time.  They were the best lobster ravioli I've ever had.  To top it off we've been told we need to go to Mike's Pastry. It's THE place to be! You see everyone carrying Mike's boxes on the street so, of course, here we go!

They must have twenty different kinds of Cannoli! We each chose a chocolate eclair. (Jim also had a cream puff but I swore I wouldn't tell!) We had them boxed to go. We really just want to walk around with our little box from Mike's like everyone else!

Back to our room now, it's been another great day.  Every night we look at each other and say "It's been another great day!" I don't know if we can keep it up but we're sure going to try.
